In Matthew 16 Jesus says that he would build his church on “this rock” and that the “gates of hell” (or literally: gates of Hades) will not prevail against the church. Which rock did Jesus speak about? And are these gates of hell a real place? I visited the real place in northern Israel, located in Hermon Stream Nature Reserve, also known as Banyas or Banias.
